Keep reading to learn the critical elements of a progress report and find 8 of the best free homeschool progress report templates on the internet for every educational level.

What Are the Key Elements of a Progress Report?

Having a homeschooled child means that, among many other things, you have to generate their own homeschool progress reports. But what do homeschool progress report forms need to include?

A good homeschool progress report has to:

  • Meet your state requirements
  • Measure progress
  • Provide feedback
  • Be detailed
  • Include personal information
  • Include grades, attendance and a resource list

8 Free Homeschool Progress Reports Templates

The following is a list of free printable progress reports that I’ve put together to help you create your own sample homeschool report card for your child:

Preschool

The good thing about preschool homeschooling is that it comes with fewer requirements and the progress reports are easier to create.

1. Canva

Canva is a free online graphic design platform widely popular worldwide due to its user-friendly interface and easy-to-edit templates.

Canva provides school progress report templates for every level. Still, I would only recommend using those expressly designed for preschool.

They’re less specific, and you don’t need to include as much information as in elementary, middle, or high school.

In this homeschool progress report example, you just have to fill in your child’s basic information, a quarterly grade for each skill and ability worked during the period, and some feedback.

I like it because it keeps it simple, and the design is appropriate for a preschool report card.

Elementary

These printable progress reports for elementary students cover most of the standard requirements from the different states.

They include most of the critical elements of a good progress report mentioned above.

2. Homeschool Giveaways and Freebies

Homeschool Giveaways & Freebies is one of the best websites for homeschool free materials and resources.

In this case, they have put together this outstanding set of free report card and progress report templates, which is one of the most complete ones you can find on the internet for elementary school.

It’s a downloadable PDF file with 9 pages of different versions of a base homeschool report card. You have all the needed elements including the student’s basic information, subject, grade, notes, area most improved section, personal growth, and more.

3. Blessed Beyond a Doubt

Blessed Beyond a Doubt is a faith-based website that provides plenty of resources for homeschool parents and “the busy educator.”

I chose this report card template for homeschooling because it is quite simple and easy to fill. For example, it has a page for “Academics” and room for 9 different subjects and 4 quarters.

It also includes another page for “Character and Life Skills Traits” with the same amount of space as the “Academics” page.

To get the PDF, you have to give your name and email, and they will send it to you.

You’ll also have to add a cover with your child’s basic information, as this template doesn’t provide any space for that.

4. Mama of Letters

Mama of Letters is the personal blog of homeschooling mom Shelli Bond Pabis, and she uses it to chronicle her homeschool experience and help other homeschool parents.

Her homeschool progress report template has been designed to comply with the State of Georgia’s homeschool law. Still, the good thing is that you can download the editable Word file and customize it according to your needs.

This progress report template includes reading, language arts, math, science, and social studies sections but suggests inserting any other subject your child may be studying.

For each subject, you must insert curriculum, resources, classes and field trips, the work your child has mastered, comments, and state at what level your child is currently at.

Middle School

For some reason –maybe because they are similar to the elementary report cards– finding middle school progress reports templates is hard.

However, after a long search, I include this excellent option.

5. 123 Homeschool 4 Me

123 Homeschool 4 Me is one of those unique websites filled with tons of homeschool freebies and materials.

They created this super complete PreK-12 report card bundle that you can use for your middle school child.

Ignore the preschool and elementary sections and go directly to page 10, where you have space to fill in your child’s basic information and some feedback.

In the following pages, you have different versions to choose the one that best fits your needs. It includes the following sections:

  • Academic progress
  • Habits and attitudes
  • Grading scale
  • Attendance report
  • Notes

High School

In high school, all the homeschool requirements become more specific and complex.

For that reason, I’m providing you with 3 great high school progress report templates to choose the one that works better for you.

6. Homeschool-Curriculum

Homeschool-Curriculum is an exciting website that offers high-quality homeschool curriculums, tips, worksheets, and other homeschooling resources.

This quarterly report card template can be downloaded in Excel format for you to edit and customize as you see fit.

It includes the needed space for your child’s name, tutor’s name, subject, and textbook used.

Then you have to fill in each quarter’s percentages and grades. Finally, it provides sections for the overall quarter grade, exam, and overall semester grade, as well as a final grade.

Besides you can also download a transcript template in Excel to comply with high school requirements.

7. Homeschool.com

Homeschool.com should be one of your go-to websites for homeschooling resources and materials.

Here you can find a Digital Grade Book, great for record-keeping, and a free report card, which is one of the most complete I’ve found for high school students.

It provides enough space to include all the important information about your child, including name, grade, school year, and days absent.

You can also add your homeschool name, address, and teacher and principal signatures.

Then, you must insert the courses your high schooler is taking, their level, credits, grade by semester, final grade, and comments. It even includes a “Course Level Key” for you to specify if your child did an Honors Course, Advanced Placement Course, or College Prep Course.

8. Template.net

Lastly, I include this printable Homeschool report card and transcript from Template.net because it’s very well designed and has a serious look.

The link provides several options, but the one I’m describing here is the one you can see in the image below. It has enough space to include all the essential information about your child and homeschooling.

Then it includes sections for English, math, foreign languages, social studies, science, and electives. However, as you can download it in Word format, you can modify the subjects at will.

You have to fill in the grades for both semesters and the earned credits. It also includes a key to grading, test record section, cumulative GPA, and administrator’s signature.
