Memory Game
I’m starting with my favorite game to teach new vocabulary. The memory game is perfect to learn new words in another language as you can include a word in English in one of the cards, and its translation in Spanish in the other one. A great way to improve this activity is to include an image of each word, to facilitate your kids’ learning process.

5 Cool Facts About Ancient Egypt for Kids

1. Cats were sacred animals!
The question about being a perro (dog) or gato (cat) person didn’t make any sense in ancient Egypt. They were all cat people! It wasn’t so much that they believed that cats were actual dioses (gods), but that they associated cat features to those of their gods. At the very least, Egyptians very much appreciated cats back then.
2. Pyramids are tombs!
The pyramids are actually the tumbas (tombs) Egyptians built for their pharaohs. They believed that pharaohs needed to be buried with their tesoros (treasures) as they would need them in the afterlife. Over 130 pyramids have been discovered so far throughout Egipto (Egypt).
3. Egyptians loved to make mummies!
This strong belief of egipcios (Egyptians) in the afterlife moved them to preserve the dead bodies of important people. They did that through a process called momifcación (mummification), which involved using as much as 1.6 kilometers of vendajes (bandages)!
4. They had over 2,000 gods!
Good luck trying to keep all those gods happy! Each god had different responsibilities and required worshipping, so the universe and Egyptians’ lives would stay in balance. With so many gods to worship in the Egyptian mythology, one wonders at what time they would work or go to school, right?
5. They had over 700 hieroglyphics!
Egyptians didn’t write like we do these days. Their alfabeto (alphabet) was formed by more than 700 jeroglíficos (hieroglyphics). This kind of escritura (writing) employs characters in the form of pictures. For example, a búho (owl) would represent the sound “m.”
Historians have created a simplified translation of our modern letters to Egyptian hieroglyphs. Take a look at the description for each letter symbol below.
