In Yoro, Honduras, la lluvia de peces, takes place every year. It happens on one random day during the months of May or June—when summer is starting in the town of La Union, in the department of Yoro.
It usually happens during torrential downpours when thunder and lightning are extreme and everyone stays inside.
After the storm, there are hundreds, if not thousands, of small little silverfish flooding the streets. People go out with buckets to collect them for food.
For tourists, being able to witness such a spectacle is a matter of pure luck.

El parque nacional Montaña de Yoro (Montaña de Yoro National Park) was established January 1st of 1987.
It has a total area of 59.76 square miles (154.8 sq km), and an altitude between 1,800 and 2,245 meters.
Here you can find three different ecosystems:
- Broadleaf forest – el bosque latifoliado
- Mixed forest – el bosque mixto
- Coniferous forest – el bosque de coniferas
