11 Free Online Math Games for Kids to Add to Your Homeschool Routine

Do you need some fun assistance in teaching math? Online math games for kids are the answer.

Your child can have fun while learning, and you can improve the effectiveness of your math lessons at home. In this list, I’ve rounded up my favorite 11 free online math games that will make math way more fun and interactive!

Who Is Homeschool Spanish Academy?
We’re an online Spanish school committed to empowering parents and their children to live happier lives, enjoy stronger learning outcomes, and experience real success. Learn more about our affordable classes.➡️

Why You Should Introduce Online Math Games to Your Homeschool Routine

In 2021, a British survey showed that the third part of 2000 homeschooling parents found math “difficult” and “very difficult” to teach.

That means you’re not the only one struggling with this subject at home.

That’s when online math games for elementary and preschoolers come in handy. Playing games to learn math “encourages strategic mathematical thinking,” offers opportunities to practice, and allows students to “explore fundamental number concepts.”

What’s more, playing cool math games for kids can make learning fun and entertaining!

12 Free Online Math Games for Kids

For all these reasons, here are 12 free learning math games and useful math websites for kids:

1. Topmarks

Why is it on my list?

I use this website in my classroom to teach math to third-grade students, and they love it.

Key Specs:

  • Pricing: Free
  • Ages: 3 to 14
ProsCons
Categorized by age
Categorized by math concept
Lots of games
Easy to use
Some games run only in Flash
Some games use UK terms and British English
Some games’ graphics are too basic

“Topmarks” has it all. I like the simplicity to access to each game and the user-friendly interface. In addition, the variety of games and the diversity of math concepts covered are pretty impressive.

I truly recommend this site. I’m sure that once you try it, you’ll understand why I like it so much.

2. Splash Learn

Why is it on my list?

My daughters use it for their math lessons, and I’ve witnessed its effectiveness

Key Specs:

  • Pricing: Free trial period and premium plans starting at $5 per month
  • Level: Pre-K to Grade 5
ProsCons
Lots of games
Includes a learning app
Playsheets and online tutoring
Weekly reports
You have to pay to access all the services
Some games are very simple
The number of games can be overwhelming

Splash Learn is a fantastic site with plenty of virtual games that covers almost every math concept your preschool, kindergarten, or elementary student needs to learn.

Its primary disadvantage is the cost. You can try it for free, but once the free trial period ends, you have to pay if you want to keep using their extraordinary variety of math games and resources.

3. PBS Kids

Why is it on my list?

It’s particularly helpful for preschoolers and kindergarteners.

Key Specs:

  • Pricing: Free
  • Level: Preschool and Kindergarten
ProsCons
Popular characters
Lots of games
Focus on early-age kids
There are no categories
Lacks information about math concepts
It doesn’t have games for elementary students

PBS Kids is a fun website that offers plenty of free math games (and other subjects too).

Its success comes from using popular characters from TV series that kids love. However, most games tend to be simple, and the site isn’t well-designed.

Most games don’t show you the math concept until you start playing. It’s a great tool for younger children, but I have to say that it isn’t the best math resource out there.

4. Math Playground

Why is it on my list?

It’s one of the best websites for online math games for kids.

Key Specs:

  • Pricing: Free
  • Level: Kindergarten to Grade 6
ProsCons
Categorized by grade
Categorized by math concept
A lot of games
Math videos
Story math
Limited amount of math concepts covered
Some games’ graphics are very basic
There are no games for preschoolers

Math Playground is an excellent website that provides lots of easy-to-access and easy-to-play math games. Its user-friendly design allows you to go straight to what you need.

You can choose games by grade, math concept, or math area.

You can find logic games, multiplayer games, math videos, and story math. And the best part is that you can share the game on Google Classroom.

5. Math Game Time

Why is it on my list?

It offers fun math games from preschool to grade 7.

Key Specs:

  • Pricing: Free
  • Level: Pre-K to Grade 7
ProsCons
Categorized by grade
Categorized by subject
Mobile games
Math videos
Math worksheets
Basic design
Not as many games as on other websites
Some games take a long time to load

Math Game Time is one of those old-school-design websites that are functional but don’t offer much in terms of visuals and capabilities.

However, it has a nice collection of online math games organized by grade starting from Pre-K to grade 7. Although some games can seem very basic in their design, in general, this website serves its purpose as a math learning tool.

6. Education.com

Why is it on my list?

It’s one of the best educational platforms online, and it’s filled with many fun math games.

Key Specs:

  • Pricing: Free for a limited number of games per day
  • Level: Pre-K to Grade 8
ProsCons
Categorized by grade
Categorized by subject
Powerful search engine
Complex subjects (algebra, data, and graphing)
Related guided lessons
Printable worksheets
You have to pay to get full access
The number of games can be overwhelming
You need to sign up to play

Education.com is a very well-regarded site in educational circles. It offers a lot of useful material for teachers, parents, and students all over the world.

It’s not a website focused on games, but if you combine it with the rest of the resources offered, it can become a great partner in your homeschool math efforts.

7. Math is Fun

Why is it on my list?

It’s a helpful website that provides plenty of math sources for homeschooling.

Key Specs:

  • Pricing: Free
  • Level: Unspecified
ProsCons
Multiplayer games
Puzzles
Math worksheets
An old, basic design
A limited number of games
Many Flash games don’t work anymore on regular computers

Math is Fun is an old math website that still provides lots of math aid resources and materials. This site is filled with helpful math activities, from lots of games to calculus worksheets.

However, the site isn’t very attractive for today’s kids.

Nevertheless, you can still find some exciting games that serve as a complement to engaging math lessons.

It’s not the best site to play online math games, but it is still a useful tool for specific subjects.

8. Ducksters

Why is it on my list?

It’s an educational site with a limited amount of math games.

Key Specs:

  • Pricing: Free
  • Level: Unspecified
ProsCons
Easy to use
Cool graphing game
Math plus puzzle
An old, basic design
A very limited number of games
The visuals aren’t great

Ducksters is another website that is not visually very attractive. However, it still provides students with lots of educational material and covers many subjects.

There aren’t many math games available, but you can find some classic gems such as Tronix and Math Plus Puzzle.

9. Educaplay

Why is it on my list?

It’s a smart option with plenty of games and activities on many subjects.

Key Specs:

  • Pricing: Limited free access and premium plans
  • Level: Unspecified
ProsCons
A lot of games and activities
Option to share on Microsoft Teams, Google Classroom, and Moodle
You can create your own games and activities
Have to pay to enjoy full access
Most games aren’t designed for early-age students
Games aren’t easy to find

Educaplay is an interesting educational platform similar to Kahoot! or Quizlet, where users generate different kinds of games and activities and share them with others on the platform.

You can create your own matching columns games, memory games, or map quiz and enjoy those created by other users.

The problem is that the premium plans are expensive.

10. Funbrain

online math games for kids

Why is it on my list?

It offers a unique collection of original math games.

Key Specs:

  • Pricing: Free
  • Level: Pre-K to grade 8
ProsCons
Original games
Each game describes which level it’s intended for
Some games are complicated
The design is very basic

Funbrain is a perfect example of a good website that could’ve been better. Like other websites, it is not focused on math games only but a series of learning activities about different subjects.

Nonetheless, the Math Zone includes various math games with different difficulty levels.

Games aren’t the funniest, and the visuals are pretty limited, but if you want to learn math differently, its unique type of games can be refreshing.

11. AdaptedMind

Why is it on my list?

First, it turns math content into a fun game.

Key Specs:

  • Pricing: One month free trial and then $9.95 per month
  • Level: Preschool to grade 6
ProsCons
Personalized content
Ongoing assessment
Over 300,000 math problems and explanations
Fun monsters and other characters
You have to pay to enjoy full access
You can’t choose a math concept to work with
It can take over your math program

AdaptedMind is an interesting concept that turns math into a fun game.

That means your child won’t come here just to play, but the whole math content is turned into a game with its characters, points system, and challenges.

It’s like providing your math program to the AdaptedMind platform and letting your child learn through a personalized game with ongoing assessment and real-time data.
