5 Benefits of Learning Another Language [Tips from a Multilingual Person]
I grew up in Europe and moved to the United States at the age of 13. By that time, I had already spoken 3 languages: Bosnian, Slovenian, and German. English was next. It took me almost 2 years, but English is now my primary language and I love it.
Learning so many different languages at a young age made me more approachable, more confident, and overall, better at life. But as an adult, learning a new language can be intimidating.
Still, I knew I wanted to add Spanish to my list.
I didn’t have the time to learn with peers like my previous languages so I sought help from the best online school there is: Homeschool Spanish Academy. They are hands-on, very culturally immersed, and authentic.
I would encourage every adult to give another language a try.
Here are my top 5 reasons why!
1. It improves your memory and analytical skills
Learning to speak, read, and write any language takes a lot of work. It involves memorization, practice, and analysis. It keeps you thinking, working, and learning all at the same time. But also having a ton of fun. Because you know you will learn something new and be able to use it in the real world.

2. It strengthens your brain muscles
As you get older, we all know that we aren’t as sharp, and our brain muscles weaken. But when you pick up a new language, your brain muscles are in overdrive. They are working extra hard but also strengthening at the same time. Keeping you thriving.

3. It gives you a whole new appreciation of other cultures
When you start learning a new language you don’t just learn words. Some languages are very theatrical. Their words and phrases have so much more meaning. They are so full of emotions that you finally begin to understand the passion behind certain cultures.

4. It helps you travel with ease
I don’t know about you, but I love to travel. I want to visit as many counties in the world as possible. And while we do have translation apps available there is nothing more respectful than a visitor who speaks the language. Even if it’s in bits and pieces, it shows the visiting country, their people, that you admire their culture and want to participate. But it also helps you get around with ease too.

5. It prepares you for the ever-changing global market
It’s 2022 and if you don’t speak another language, you need to get on board. We are evolving, we are advancing, and language is power. You will be far more successful in your future roles if you know at least one more language.
