The Best Homeschool Spanish Curriculum at HSA
Are you on the hunt for an excellent homeschool Spanish curriculum?
With a quality homeschool Spanish curriculum, students acquire Spanish naturally by doing developmentally appropriate activities in an immersive environment that provides lots of opportunity to speak, read, and write Spanish. Learning Spanish in a homeschool setting benefits your child academically, cognitively, and socially.
A homeschool language curriculum can help you achieve 4 levels of language learning:
- Exposure
- Conversation
- Proficiency
- Fluency
Do you wish to simply expose your kids to Spanish? If so, choosing a curriculum that includes the basics is appropriate.
If your goal is for them to become proficient in Spanish, then you’ll need to find a more comprehensive curriculum.
Likewise, if you want your kids to become fluent, then you’ll need to choose a homeschool curriculum with authentic language learning practice to create an immersive experience for your kids.

7 Criteria for Homeschool Spanish Curriculum
Let’s explore what the ideal homeschool Spanish curriculum for your kids looks like, by finding out how Homeschool Spanish Academy meets the criteria!
1. Is it developmentally appropriate?
Finding a curriculum that matches your child’s developmental stage is key. Keep in mind that young children learn languages differently from older children. Often, a child who struggles to learn a second language would benefit from a more targeted curriculum.
Homeschool Spanish Academy (HSA) provides personal classes scheduled at your convenience that employ a dynamic curriculum to provide your child with a complete learning experience.
Rather than prioritizing grammar memorization, HSA’s balanced approach to Spanish language learning focuses on five key concepts:
- Relevance
- Attention
- Meaning
- Memory
- Accountability
2. Does it offer enough practice in the target language?
Language learning requires at least 15 minutes of practice every day, just like a musical instrument. (More is better.)
HSA’s program enables you to make your own schedule, choose your instructor, and reschedule or cancel a session if needed. Students can choose their session frequency, although HSA recommends taking at least 2 classes per week.
In addition, we share many free and low-cost ways to reinforce language learning, as well as practical tips and resources for teaching Spanish to children that complement our homeschool Spanish curriculum. Check out our blog, Facebook page, and YouTube channel.
3. Does it challenge students in all 4 areas of language learning?
To learn a modern language, children need practice in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. All HSA teachers are native Spanish speakers from Guatemala, and they make conversation a priority in every class.
For students who read and write, the HSA curricula combines auditory comprehension through speaking with the teacher with written practice. The end result is that you develop skills in all areas of language learning—reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
4. Is it engaging?
Since motivation is a key part of language learning, the curriculum you choose needs to suit your child’s learning preferences and personality.
The “one size fits all” philosophy doesn’t work well when it comes to learning a language. We all learn differently, depending on our age, background, and experience.
Each HSA program is specifically designed with the student in mind. The teacher is there to help you when you have questions. Our experienced teachers create customized lessons to fit your specific strengths, challenges, and goals. They focus on you, your skills, and your improvement since, after all, you are the reason for the class.

5. How much parental involvement does it require?
Parent involvement is flexible at HSA. If you are interested in learning Spanish alongside your children, you can sit in on the classes. If your child prefers to learn independently, that’s fine too.
Parents receive plenty of support and resources. Our team is available by phone, chat, or email for support.
6. Can it be used for more than one student at once?
If you have two similarly-aged children who want to learn Spanish, they can take HSA classes together from the same computer or device—saving you time, energy, and money. This economical option is perfect for siblings or friends.
7. Does it fit your budget?
HSA is affordable. The per class price is significantly lower than other options for live online classes. You even have flexibility when it comes to payment options. (Learn more about our pricing.)
