10 Websites for You to Take a Spanish Fluency Test

Measure your second language abilities with an online Spanish fluency test!  Challenge yourself to recognize what level you are at so you can get to where you want to be.

What is a Spanish Fluency Test?

Spanish fluency or placement tests are designed to give you an idea of your Spanish level. Whether you’re a complete beginner or have had years of practice, Spanish fluency tests can give you a better grasp of which level you’re at.

Benefits of Spanish Fluency Tests

There are lots of advantages and reasons to take a Spanish fluency test! Whether you need class credit, a resume addition, or just want to see how far you’ve come, a Spanish placement test is an easy solution.

Your language proficiency test results are an easy way to prove your level of Spanish competency. Oftentimes, governments, companies, and institutions require them from applicants. If you want to work in a specific country or take advanced classes, a language proficiency test might be a required element of your application.

Spanish tests can be used for more than just job or school credit. They’re also a way to practice Spanish and study. Knowing you’re about to take a language exam is likely to inspire you to study ahead of time so you can get a good score.

It’s also just a great tool to use so that you understand where you stand in the language. Books, study materials, and even YouTube videos are often labeled with “advanced,” “intermediate” or  a number like C2. Taking a Spanish fluency test will immediately give you an accurate idea of which materials to choose.

It’s more than just a label, it’s a way to help you learn more effectively!

Top 10 Spanish Fluency Test Websites

1.  Lengalia

Spanish fluency test

Lengalia’s test gives you a score level between beginner and advanced. The placement test tests your skills in Spanish according to the CEFR language levels. From A1 to C2, these are commonly used labels that will sound more familiar to you after taking the test.

The Lengalia test starts with the lowest level (A1). You have to pass each level to move on to the next. Once you get stuck, you find out your level!

2. Language Trainers U.S. & Canada

Spanish fluency test

This test creates your score based on your comprehension of Spanish grammar and your understanding of various phrases. This test is designed to reflect the levels of official accreditation programs, such as ACTFL (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages.) Although Language Trainers is not an official test, it can still let you know if you’re prepared for the real one.

Each Spanish proficiency rating gives an approximate description of your current comprehension, as well as the average number of hours of study to reach the level. The results also tell you which questions you got wrong so you can go back and study those specific areas later.

3. Ail Madrid

Spanish fluency test

AIL Madrid’s Spanish online level test consists of 40 questions. Each set of 10 questions is broken down into a level. The first 10 are the beginner level (A1), the second 10 are the elementary level (A2), the next 10 are the intermediate level (B1) and the last 10 are the advanced level (B2-C2). Each level corresponds to the Common European Framework of Reference.

This test is a little different from most in that incorrect answers will make you lose points. In this case, you don’t want to guess on answers! If you don’t know it, it’s better to leave it blank rather than decrease your score. The further you get in the test, the harder the questions are.

After completing your exam, you will receive an email with your new Spanish level. Best of all, your results come with an explanation for every question you answered wrong.

4. Transparent Language

Spanish fluency test

Transparent Langauge’s proficiency test consists of multiple sections. Each section has about 10-15 questions. You have to answer all the questions in the first section to move on to the next. The questions relate to grammar, vocabulary, and reading comprehension.

5. Tía Tula

Tía Tula

Tía Tula lets you pick which level you want to test for. This is especially useful if you’re at an advanced level, allowing you to bypass all the easy questions and save time. However, if you want to be sure, you can still take each level test.

In order to pass the test, you need to score an 80% or more. And if you pass a test, it actually means that your skills are above that level. Ultimately, your level will correspond to the lowest level test you cannot pass. For example, if you pass the B2 test but fail the C1 test, your level is C1.

6. DELE

DELE

DELE stands for Diplomas de Español como Lengua Extranjera (Diplomas of Spanish as Foreign Language). DELE is a worldwide recognized title of Spanish proficiency. It is provided by the Instituto Cervantes, which assures its value as an official Spanish proficiency test. The DELE is similar to other language proficiency tests and comprehensively gauges Spanish grammar and comprehension.

Make sure you know your Spanish level before taking the exam because it’s based on which CEFR level you want to certify. After completing and passing your exam, the DELE certification is valid for life and has no age or nationality restrictions. The official DELE exam costs around $130 – $250 depending on which level you are testing for.

7. LTI – ACTFL Exams

Spanish fluency test

Language Testing International is a part of ACTFL (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages). The Spanish fluency test is completely online so you can take it from home!

There are four modules that can be taken by the ACTFL:

  1. OPI (Oral Proficiency Test)
  2. LPT (Listening Proficiency Test)
  3. WPT (Writing Proficiency Test)
  4. RPT (Reading Proficiency Test)

You can pick and choose which modules to take or go through them all for a full language assessment.

Each section has a different price between $50 to $160. Each module takes between 30-80 minutes to complete. Test ratings can be available as soon as the same business day, dependending on the specific tests, and results are valid for up to two years. Depending on your school, you could even earn up to 12 college credits!

8. CLEP

CLEP

The CLEP (College Level Examination Program) is a group of standardized tests created by the US College Board. This test is a great way to earn college credit outside of the classroom!

Over 2,000 colleges in the US will grant you college credit, if you pass the CLEP exam with a score of 50 (out of 80) or higher. The exact number of credits varies by school but the higher you score the more credit you are going to earn. The test itself costs $87—a lot cheaper than a college course.

Choose between Spanish level 1 or 2 for your test. Each one contains around 120 questions and you have 90 minutes to answer them. There are also listening and reading sections, so be sure to practice!

9. Spanish Unlimited

Spanish fluency test

The Spanish Unlimited language test is broken down into 6 levels:

  1. Beginning 1
  2. Beginning 2
  3. Elementary
  4. Intermediate 1
  5. Intermediate 2
  6. Advanced

The whole test consists of just 50 questions.

Keep answering the questions from page to page until you finish. Afterwards, you will find out your score as well as explanations for your wrong answer choices.
