8 Essential Apps for Busy Homeschooling Moms

Homeschool apps for moms do exist, it’s true.

When we talk about homeschooling apps, we usually talk about apps for students. But what about homeschooling parents?

Yes, there are plenty of options for us, too!

And they can help you solve problems, from scheduling lessons to keeping records.  Others help track attendance, grades, and your children’s behavior.

In this list, discover my top 8 favorite homeschool apps for moms!

1. Evernote

Evernote is a great app that can help you store all kinds of files. It’s also an excellent tracker app.

In it, you can keep your to-do lists, notes, grades, important documents, photos of your children’s projects, accomplishments, and much more. All this can be used as evidence of your child’s progress.

You can also use the scanning options to organize your notes, whiteboards, documents, educational resources, handwritten notes, and your child’s assignments.

Key Specs:

  • Price: Free, offers In-App Purchase
  • Devices: Apple, Android
ProsCons
iOS users can add widgets to their device’s home screen
Synchronizes with Gmail and Google Calendar
Your files are easy to find
Some users complain that the updates make the app slow
Switching to another app loses your location in Evernote, and you start on the home screen again.

2. Google Calendar

Of all homeschool apps for moms, this is one of my all-time favorites. I started using Google Calendar 11 years ago, and I never stopped. I think it’s the best free homeschool schedule app to help you remember all your events and responsibilities.

Managing your child’s homeschool calendar on top of yours, and probably other children’s and your husband’s can become overwhelming.

Google Calendar makes it simple.

You can synchronize and manage your family members’ calendars, and you’ll never forget anything. Google calendar for homeschool planning is a life saver. If you want to learn more about homeschooling schedules, check out 10 Sample Homeschool Schedules You Can Copy.

Key Specs:

  • Price: Free
  • Devices: Apple, Android

Lets you organize your schedule
Helpful to keep track of co-op classes and other activities
You can synchronize other schedules

3. Google Workspace for Education (former Google Apps for Education)

If you’re part of a co-op, you can use Google Workspace for Education (it used to be called Google Apps for Education) as any other educational institution. You get the .edu domain for your co-op, and all the tools that Google offers are available for your students for free.

Google Classroom can merge all the co-op classes in one place.

You also get access to free programs and Curriculums from Google Workspace for Education, such as:

  • Applied Digital Skills (critical digital skills that have real-life application and help students prepare for jobs)
  • Be Internet Awesome (the fundamentals of digital citizenship to help them become safe and confident explorers of the online world)
  • CS First (computer science for kids; no CS experience needed)
  • Expeditions (this program brings abstract concepts to life and gives homeschoolers a deeper understanding of the world beyond their classroom)

You can also join a Google+ group to share ideas, ask questions, and help one another. You can also pay for its premium features.

To be eligible, you must:

  • Offer homeschool groups or co-ops that provide classes or services to students at least one day a week
  • Be a non-profit organization
  • Own a website (required to establish the GAFE account)
  • Contact your state homeschool organization to request a code

If you don’t have a co-op yet, and want to start one, see The Simple Way to Start a Homeschool Co-Op You Love.

It can also help you when you want to create and assign lessons. It lets you customize the assessments and set credits and grades.

An option to upload lessons made by other parents is also available. With this app you also can create portfolios, and download and print book logs.

A great app if you’re homeschooling kids in elementary school or younger.

Each one of you can enter data, with their own account, and use a common homeschool key, and then the app will synchronize all the information. You can also download the student version.

You can tie their allowance to the assigned tasks.

Kids can also download the app, if they’re big enough, and view their chores, mark them as completed, and submit them for approval. You can also add an interest rate.

Maybe you want them to pay a dollar a month for their streaming platform subscription? The app is just a tracker, you’re not sending any real money to your kids. The app also offers articles, activities, and worksheets to teach your children about financial literacy.

- Karie Ann, Parent of 3

“It’s a great way to learn Spanish, from native Spanish speakers in a 1-on-1 environment. It’s been fairly easy to schedule classes around my daughter’s other classes. The best value for us has been ordering multiple classes at a time. All the instructors have been great!”

– Cindy D, Parent of 3

- Maple, Parent of 3

“HSA offers very affordable, quality, one on one classes with a native speaker. My son has greatly benefited from taking classes. We have seen his confidence increase as well as his pronunciation improve, because he learns from a native Spanish speaker. HSA has quick, personal customer service. I have appreciated the one on one interaction and teaching that my son gets from his teachers. He has gotten to know his teachers, which has increased his confidence in speaking Spanish. Our family has been very pleased with our experience so far!”

– Maple, Parent of 3

- William R, Parent of 3

“My Son, Heath, is taking the classes. He’s been with Luisa the entire time and we absolutely love her. She is always patient and is a great teacher. Heath’s dad speaks Spanish so they get to have little conversations.”

– William R, Parent of 3
