Pre-K and Kindergarten
Several homeschool math curricula are designed for Kindergarten to 12th grade. In this section, I’ve included those that also include Preschool programs.
1. Singapore Math
Singapore Math is a program based on the Singapore education system, as this country constantly ranks right at the top in international math testing.
They offer different sets, from Preschool to 8th grade. That’s why I include it in the Pre-k and Kindergarten sections.
Goal: Singapore Math’s goal is to develop math mastery through “intentional sequencing of concepts.”
Instructional Style: It follows a CPA approach. That means that math concepts are first taught in the Concrete version, then in the Pictorial one, and finally in an Abstract way.
Standards: Their Dimensions Math aligns with common core math from Pre-k to 5th grade, and a different program aligns to CCSS from 6th grade to 8th grade.
Assessments: Singapore Math also offers a placement test that allows parents to identify their children’s math levels. Each program, from grades 1 to 5, includes two tests, one focused on key concepts and the second on applying analytical skills.
