77 Spanish Words for Children About Home and Family

Some of the most essential Spanish words for children to learn relate to their home and family. These vocabulary words are key to a child’s ability to describe where they live and talk about their relationships.

Learning family vocabulary in Spanish is an important theme for children. This vocabulary guide for kids will help them to talk about both their family members and their house.

In this blog post, we’ll look at nouns, verbs, adjectives, and example sentences. Keep reading to discover 77 basic Spanish words for children about la casa and la familia!

3 Teaching Tips for Parents

Aim to teach Spanish words for children both directly and indirectly. Use the following strategies when introducing new vocabulary.

1. Repetition is key

Children need to see, hear, and use their new words frequently to retain them. Reusing new vocabulary throughout your day is a highly effective practice.

2. Learn in rich, real-world contexts

Think outside the dictionary! Context plays an essential role in how words are used and interpreted. The more context kids are given for a particular vocabulary word, the better they’ll be able to understand and use it.

Have kids assess their daily life for uses of their new Spanish vocabulary words. This gives them additional context and helps them retain the meanings of new words through association.

3. Cultivate active engagement in learning

Ask your child to inquire, research, and create, even within vocabulary tasks. Incorporate articles, speeches, poems, and song lyrics as learning resources.

Spanish Words for Children: Basic Verbs

Spanish verbs are complex—and not fun if you try to memorize all the endings and rules at once.  Many common Spanish verbs are irregular, and there are tons of tenses and moods to conjugate.

Instead, it’s ideal to focus on what you want to say. For children and beginners, the key is knowing how to express core phrases like it is, I am, you go, and the like.

After all, toddlers reach fluency in their native language without knowing how to conjugate or what the verb tenses are called.
