8 Chat Apps to Practice Speaking Spanish with Your Phone

When you practice speaking Spanish, you have to know where to turn to so that your practice is both accurate and efficient. It’s crucial to know who to trust when it comes to your Spanish-speaking goals.

That’s why I’ve compiled this list of the best apps to practice speaking Spanish from the comfort of your own home.

If you’re a beginner or you need to learn Spanish fast, I recommend signing up for a free class so that you can understand the basics of Spanish before you practice speaking Spanish with any of these apps.

Now that we are having to stay home more, it’s the perfect time to learn Spanish and use all the amazing tools technology has to offer.

Why Use Apps?

Apps have become extremely popular because of how easy they are to use. Using a Spanish app is a simple and effective way to practice speaking Spanish on your own or even with friends. They are a great tool to support your Spanish-speaking practice.

Apps allow you to improve your skills through repetition and training your ear. If you struggle with pronunciation, these apps offer repetition. If grammar or vocabulary are challenging, you can practice grammar structures and new words via an app.

8 Apps to Practice Speaking Spanish

Downloading these apps to your phone or tablet is an easy way to access Spanish learning exercises. Not only do apps help you practice speaking Spanish, but they also train your ear to the tune of Spanish.

1. HelloTalk

This app was created in 2017 and its purpose is to help you become fluent in Spanish quickly. It facilitates learning Spanish by connecting you to native Spanish speakers from around the world. It’s a unique experience where users can teach each other their native language.

It offers many different tools such as video and text chat, translation, camera share and transliteration. While HelloTalk offers many different activities and features, it does not offer a review system for users to share their experience. Nowadays, this is key since this is how other users can know whether or not they’d like to try it out.

You can download the Hellotalk app for free for iOS or Android.

2. iTranslate Voice

iTranslate Voice isn’t a typical Spanish learning app. It’s excellent if you’re a beginner to intermediate level student. It tests your pronunciation and can automatically detect different languages, including Spanish. iTranslate Voice converts spoken language into text and can translate that text into the language that you’re learning.

If you try this app out, try speaking Spanish into it so that the app can detect the language and see how good your Spanish is. If it cannot detect the language, keep practicing and try again.

Once it detects the language, you can see the text that the app transcribes for you. You can also see the English translation so that you can check how accurate your Spanish was. The iTranslate Voice app is available for iOS for $6.99; the Android version of the app is free but offers in-app purchases for $2.99 each.

3. Spanish Translator +

If you’re looking for a language expert wherever you go, Spanish Translator + is for you. This app is ideal for students and travelers.

It includes a comprehensive dictionary, a translator, a verb conjugator, vocabulary exercises, and flash cards to practice your skills. All these tools make Spanish Translator + an excellent tool to travel with whenever you’re not sure how to say a word and expand your vocabulary.

This app is popular because it offers personalized features. You can add pictures, audio, or notes to dictionary entries, making it a fun way to learn and practice speaking Spanish on the go.

You can download Spanish Translator + for iOS or Android.

4. AudioNote

AudioNote is another app that takes what you say and converts it into text. It tests your pronunciation and sentence structure. You speak at the top off your head and listen to it later so that you can see how much of your own Spanish you understand.

It’s a great idea to use this app to remind yourself to do something in Spanish and to read excerpts from your favorite Spanish books and compare them to audiobooks in Spanish. You can always refer back to your AudioNote and see how far you’ve come.

The AudioNote app is $9.99 on iOS and $5.99 on Android.

5. SpeakTribe

SpeakTribe is a language learning app to practice speaking Spanish that focuses on listening and speaking. Their philosophy is based on the notion that everyday language usage is vocal, so the learning process should be based mostly on conversation.

The app offers interactive chat exercises for listening and speaking. You also get feedback on your pronunciation so you know how well your Spanish learning is going.

Learn about nouns, verbs, conjugations, and prepositions with this app. It gives you a review before you begin to practice speaking Spanish. You can then build sentences and practice your structure as well. The SpeakTribe app is free for iOS and Android but offers in-app purchases from $9.58 to $24.99.

6. Brainscape

The Brainscape app offers 200 audio flashcards for you to memorize different words and their pronunciation. What makes this app stand out is that it’s focused on Spanish for survival and travel. It quickly prepares you to talk to native speakers.

Brainscape uses repetition designed to help you learn quickly. Whenever you use the flashcard, you repeat what you have learned and then listen to how well you can pronounce the Spanish term. Repeating these new words will also help you broaden your vocabulary and make you more confident to practice speaking Spanish with native speakers.

The Brainscape app is free, but you can buy the flashcard set from $3.99 to $79.99.

7. HiNative

The HiNative app works similarly to reddit. This app is ideal if you’re a beginner since they have a community where people can ask questions about language learning and not feel alone in the process.

You can instantly get feedback from native speakers and find out how well you speak Spanish. Its features include reading and writing assistance, audio recordings, photos, and help from native speakers who can check your pronunciation and structure.  They use a question-and-answer format where everyone in the community helps each other.

The HiNative app is available for both iPhone and Android users. You can download it for free on the App Store and Google Play.

8. Duolingo

The Duolingo app has become wildly popular in recent years. The app helps users learn Spanish by improving their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills through interactive exercises. They have a rewards system so that you can see your progress in reaching your Spanish-speaking goals.

The app keeps students engaged and committed on their journey to fluency. It also includes recording of native speakers so that you can listen and reproduce what you heard. It offers grammar explanations so that you can understand the structure and vocabulary before diving into the practice.

The Duolingo app is free and available for both iPhone and Android users.
