The Ultimate Vocabulary Guide to Skiing in Spanish

How old are the very first skis? At least 10,000 years! That’s right the first pair was found in Northern China and they date back to 8000 BC according to MabeySki.

But I know you’re not here for those facts. You’re here to learn some Spanish. So let’s get to it. What’s the translation of skiing in Spanish? El esquí. And how do you say “to ski”? Esquiar.

Skiing Vocabulary in Spanish

The day is beautiful, the afternoon sky is blue, and the sun is shining. Pines are covered in snow and everything looks cold, but beautiful from the inside of the wooden hut where you’re at. Your heart starts beating a bit faster to slide down that white mountain.

3 Cool Places to Ski in Spanish-Speaking Countries

While Latin America can be perceived as a hot and humid place that is a very broad generalization. Our beautiful continent has got all types of weathers, environments and landscapes. You can ski in Latin America, especially in Argentina, Chile and Spain (which of course isn’t part of Latin America per sé). Check out these 3 cool places.

1. Cerro de Catedral, Bariloche, Argentina

Bariloche is in the South of Argentina, (kind of) close to the Antarctic. Cerro de Catedral is the biggest ski resort in all of the Southern Hemisphere and has 1,200 skiable hectares and it’s open all year long.

2. Candanchú, Huesca, Spain

Candanchú is a skiing resort in Spain, very close to the border with France. The place opened all the way back in 1928. It’s the oldest skiing school in the country and has 0.5 miles (900 meters) to ski downhill.

3. Chillán, Chile

Chillán is considered the capital of “powder” skiing in South America. The park has 8-mile (13km) tracks to ski on. There are 27 tracks in total and 10,000 hectares to ski on. A ski school and even hot springs where to relax. Don’t miss out on this Chilean icy paradise.
